Our First Spanish Lesson!

Greetings! Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a great day!

In Religion class today, we talked about how God created everything and us. We learned that God created us because he loves us.

In Language Arts, we reviewed the letters e, b, l, d, and h. We also reviewed the words where, here, we, the. We also segmented words into syllables, segmented words into sounds, and identified rhyming words. Along with that we worked on providing details after listening to a story about different habitats.

This afternoon in Language Arts we started our Peacekeeper Lesson. We read A Little Spot of Kindness and sorted examples based on whether or not they were kind.

In Math class today, we learned the terms same, more, and fewer. We created a simple graph of socks and shoes and identified the more and fewer objects.

We ended our day with Spanish class. Today we learned the numbers 0-10. We will continue to practice them next week.

Don't forget your umbrella tomorrow!

Welcome to Our Second Week!

Greetings! Welcome to our second week and first full week in first grade. We had an awesome start to our week.

In Religion class, we talked about how God is our father, he made us, and he loves us. We drew a picture of God holding us in the palm of his hand because he always keeps us safe.

We continued our review in Language Arts. Today we reviewed the letters c, f, i, and o. We also reviewed the words this, is, look, little, and my. In addition, we practiced rhyming and onset/rime. We also worked on our comprehension as we listened to "Jack and the Beanstalk."

After our reviewing, we read Elmer and talked about what makes each of us special. We wrote about it and are in the process of adding it to a craft. We'll finish that tomorrow morning.

In Math class today, we practiced showing a number two different ways. We learned that there are multiple ways to show a number which will help us as we learn about addition and subtraction.

Have a great night!

On the Third Day of School!

Greetings! Happy Friday! We made it through yet another warm day! Hopefully next week will be more seasonable.

We began our day by attending Mass. Today, we honored St. Monica. Fr. Brian told us about how she always prayed to God and encouraged us to do likewise.

We continued our review in Language Arts. We reviewed the letters n, r, p, t. We also reviewed the sight words he, can, has, go, and a. In addition we worked on our comprehension as we read a nonfiction piece about elephants.

After our review, we completed a fun page about our summer. We wrote or drew about a place we went, a favorite treat, something we found, and so much more!

In Math class today, we continued to work with the numbers to 10. We used linking cubes and a ten frame to show various numbers. We also used number cards to identify a given quantity.

In Science class today, we talked about how we can group animals. We practiced grouping them by where they live and how they move.

Finally, it was time for Art class. Today we made an ice cream cone. On the cone, we added 'sprinkles'. On each sprinkle we wrote a letter of our name. They look great hanging in our classroom.

Have a great weekend!

Our 2nd Day of School!

Greetings! I hope everyone is having a great day! It was a warm one today. But with fans and unlimited water, we made it through.

We began our day by heading over to the church to review how we behave in church. We talked about how our feet are on the pink carpet and not the kneelers, how we kneel, and how we sit. We are ready for church tomorrow!

In Language Arts class today, we began our review of the alphabet. We reviewed the letters m, s, and a. We also reviewed some of the sight words we learned in kindergarten: I, like, to, do, you. In addition to our review, we worked on comprehension as we listened to "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" and answered questions about the story.

When we were finished reviewing, we read Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes. After reading the story, we drew what we like to do in our school shoes and then wrote a sentence about it.

In Math class today, we reviewed the numbers to 10. Each student was given a number and asked to show that number on a ten frame. We then put our frames in order from 1-10.

For Gym class, we headed outside to exercise with our friends.

We ended our day with Social Studies. Today we talked about things we do with our families.

Because tomorrow will be another warm day, the children may wear shorts and sneakers to school.

Welcome to First Grade!

Welcome to First Grade! And welcome to Room 101's classroom blog. Every night I will be posting updates and pictures (when appropriate) about the learning we did that day. I hope you enjoy reading what we do. Please feel free to comment or email me with questions.

We began our day by unpacking all of our supplies and as one student said getting settled. Thank you so much for all of the supplies. They will come in handy this year.

After that, we read First Grade Jitters, a funny story about a teacher who did not want to go to school on the first day. We then talked about how we had some jitters this morning. To help them go away, we had some jitter juice (fruit punch and 7 up). That really seemed to help.

Following that we read David Goes to School. After hearing the story, we talked about what we need to do to be fantastic first graders. We completed a sort of good and bad choices and wrote out a classroom promise of what we will do everyday to be fantastic first graders.

Before we knew it, it was time for lunch and recess. After our break, we practiced writing the alphabet. We also had our very first Math Meeting.

Finally, we read Chrysanthemum, a story about loving ourselves. Following that, we created a flag pendant highlighting things we like. They are displayed in the hallway.
Have a fantastic night!
