Wrapping Up Our Review!

Greetings! Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine and warm breeze today!

In Religion class today we talked about how God gave us many gifts and how we need to thank God for these gifts. One way we can thank him is by praying the Our Father. As a class, we practiced praying the prayer.

We wrapped up our Language Arts review today. We reviewed the letters g, w, v, qu, y, j, x, and z. We also reviewed the words and, have, said, see, was. Tomorrow we will begin the first grade Language Arts.

In Penmanship, we reviewed writing 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4.

In Math, we practiced using the words more, fewer, and same in sentences. The students worked with a partner. They took turns turning over picture cards. They then used one of those words in a sentence to compare the pictures.

We met our finally character today as we talked about the difference between tattling and telling. We sorted examples of tattling and telling and drew a picture of when it is ok to tell.

Have a great night!

A Rainy Day!

Greetings on this rainy day! The children were mesmerized by the rainfall today as it was coming down very hard during our Spanish class. They just couldn't help but stare out the windows.

In Religion class today, we talked about how God created all things including us. We took time to draw examples of things God has created.

In Language Arts class, we reviewed the letters k, ck, and u. We also reviewed the words she, me, are, for, and with. We will wrap up our review tomorrow!

In Penmanship class, we practiced writing the numbers 0, 6, 8, and 9.

We continue to talk about comparison in Math class. Using our linking cubes today, we compared two numbers using the words more and less.

We ended our day by talking about shouting out. We talked about what happens when we shout out and what we can do instead of shouting out. We are going to try very hard not to shout out.

Have a great night!

Our First Monday!

Greetings! Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had an excellent first Monday of the school year.

In Religion class today we talked about how God is our Father. We talked about how God made us because he loves us.

We continued our review in Language Arts. Today we reviewed the letters d, h, e, b, and l. We also reviewed the words where, here, play, the, and we. This year, we will be developing our writing skills. One of the best ways to build writing skills is to write. Today, we wrote our first journal entry; we wrote about something we are good at.

In Penmanship class, we practiced writing the numbers 2, 3, and 7.

In Math class, we looked at the words more, fewer, and same. We used our linking cubes to show more than a number and less than a number.

We ended our day with another character lesson. Today we talked about what it means to be a good listener. Good listeners look at who is talking, keep their hands still, and listen to what is being said.

Have a great night!

The End of Our First Week!

Greetings! I hope everyone is enjoying the first weekend of the school year. We had a great day to end our week.

We began our day with Mass. Today at Mass Fr. Brian reminded us to always pray for each other during the school year.

In Language Arts, we reviewed the letters c, f, and o. We also reviewed the words is, look, little, my, and this. In addition we worked on retelling a story as we read "Jack and the Beanstalk."

In Penmanship class today, we practiced writing the numbers 1, 4, and 5.

In Math class today, the students worked with a partner to play a memory game. They had to match the number word to the number. They really enjoyed this!

Today we had our first Science class of the year. We will be learning about animals for the next several weeks. Today we talked about how we can classify animals into different groups. The students then sorted pictures of animals into two groups: those that live on land and those that live in the water.

We ended our week with Art class. Today we blasted off by creating a rocket using the letters of our names. They look awesome in the hallway!

Enjoy the remainder of the weekend!

Our Third Day!

Greetings on this third day of school! I hope everyone is doing well. It is hard to believe that tomorrow is Friday.

For Religion class today, we headed over to church to review our church manners and spend some quiet time with Jesus. We are excited for our first Mass tomorrow.

In Language Arts today, we reviewed the letters p, t, r, n, and i. We also reviewed the words a, go, has, he, and do. We also worked on telling details as we read about elephants.

As we continue to establish our routines and review rules, today we talked about making good choices. We read a story about a gorilla who made bad choices and talked about what good choices he can make. We ended by drawing ourselves making a good choice.

In Math class today, we talked about the number 0. We used our linking cubes to help us count back to 0 and discussed what 0 means.

We ended our day with Social Studies. Today, we talked about our families and things we do with them, how we help each other, and what we learn from them.

Have a great night!

Our Second Day!

Greetings! I hope everyone had a great 2nd day of school. We are busy getting to learn routines, review concepts from kindergarten, and begin into our first grade learning.

In Religion class today, we talked about how our class is a family. We said that as a class family, we respect each other, are kind to one another, and help each other. We also took a look at what it means to be respectful. We read a story about a disrespectful rooster and talked about what he did and what he should have done. We then sorted examples by whether or not they were respectful. Finally, the students drew a picture of themselves being respectful.

We will begin Language Arts class this year by reviewing the letters of the alphabet along with the sight words learned in kindergarten. Today, we reviewed the letters s, m, and a along with the words I, like, do, to, you.

In Math class today, we began our chapter on the numbers to 10. We created a large poster showing each number in a ten frame. We then used our linking cubes and ten frames to show various numbers.

Have a great night!

Welcome to First Grade!

Welcome to First Grade for the 2022-2023 school year! I am so excited to begin working with the students. We had an awesome day today, and I can't wait for the many more to come!

Each night, I will be posting on our classroom blog. Here you will read about the learning that we did that day as well as enjoy any pictures from the day! I hope you enjoy!

We started today by unpacking all of our supplies. We put our pencil boxes together, stored away our extra supplies, and stuffed our desks with our books.

Then, we read The Pigeon Has To Go To School. After reading the story we talked about the different emotions we felt coming to school today. To help ease our worries, we enjoyed some "Pigeon Punch". Next, we talked and wrote about why we come to school. We added that to a craft.

Following that, we got to know each other a little better. We played a version of musical chairs. When the music stopped, the person standing had to answer a question about themselves. I have had numerous requests to play this again. We then completed a banner showing a little about ourselves.

After lunch, recess, and Spanish, we practiced writing the letters of the alphabet. We also had our very first Math Meeting. Every day, we will meet to review concepts related to the calendar, counting, and graphing.

We ended our day writing about our favorite part. We are all excited for tomorrow! Have a great night!
