Greetings! Happy Friday! Today was a very exciting day in first grade. We celebrated Johnny Appleseed's birthday by making applesauce.
Before church, we mixed apples, sugar, water, and cinnamon in a crockpot. We turned it on and let it cook. Our classroom smelt so good today!
At Mass, we celebrated the feast day of saints Cosmos and Damien.
We wrapped up another week of learning in Language Arts. We used our oral vocabulary words in sentences, took our weekly assessment, and wrote sentences using our sight words. We also wrote the steps we did in making applesauce.
In Math class today, we continued to practice writing subtraction sentences. We are doing very well with this.
Our Science class today also revolved around apples. We talked about how apples turn brown when exposed to air. So, we did an experiment to see what works best to keep the apple from turning brown. We put a slice of apple into water, vinegar, and lemon juice and watched what happened all day. Lemon juice works the best at keeping an apple from turning brown.
In Science class, we created an apple by stamp painting it and adding it onto construction paper.
After waiting all day, it was finally time to try our applesauce. The students loved it!
Have a wonderful weekend!
