Egg-cellent Day

Greetings! I hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful sunshine today. Friday was a great day of learning in first grade.

After Mass, we returned to the classroom to wrap up our learning for the week. In Language Arts, we reviewed compound words, vowels ew, ui, ue, and our sight words before taking a test on Peter's Chair. We also added the concluding sentence to our paragraph on koalas.

As an extra review activity, students worked in groups to make compound words. Each group was given a bucket with plastic Easter eggs cut in half. A word was written on each half of the egg. Students had to join two halves together to make a compound word. They enjoyed doing this.

In Math class today, we learned how to write dollar amounts using a dollar sign and decimal point.

During Science class, students learned about heat. We learned about objects that give off heat and how heat moves through objects.

Our day ended with Art class. Today we made Easter eggs. Using pieces of tissue paper, students designed their own eggs. I will post pictures of them on Monday.

I have to recognize my Forensics students who competed in their final competition today. They have worked so hard over the past three months to prepare their pieces. The first grade has been such good listeners enjoying these students present to pieces to the class. Today at the competition, we had a 2nd place winner in prose, 4th place winner in informative, and 6th place winner in duo drama. I am so proud of them.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
