What another great day it was in first grade today. The students are working so hard and learning so much!
In Religion class today, we talked about the importance of forgiving others. We then focused on our Lenten calendar task today. Each student selected a name of another student in the class and then drew that person a picture. The fun part was that no one knew who was drawing a picture for them. Thy loved sharing their pictures with each other.
During Language Arts class today, we reviewed our sight words, long i: ie, igh and kn- and wr- words. We also partner read our story and wrote about what happens in the beginning, middle, and end of Peter's Chair. Next, we wrote about what treasures we would take on a trip and then glued that piece to a suitcase which we decorated. We ended the morning by working in literacy centers.
This afternoon we returned to Language Arts. We wrote the detail sentences in our informative paragraph on koalas. We also reviewed adjectives for how many. Students were given a die and rolled it. They then wrote a sentence using that number (i.e. I have two dogs.) Some used their imaginations on their sentences.
In Math class today we talked about fractions. Using pattern blocks, we identified 1/2, 1/3, and 1/6 of a whole.
As you can see it was a busy day in first grade!
