Measurement Fun!

Greetings! Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had a fantastic day. We had one busy day in first grade.

We began our day by going to Adoration. We spent some quiet time with Jesus praying to him, asking him to help us and others, and talking to him.

We began our Language Arts class by working in our literacy centers. Then we jumped into our day of learning. We reviewed our oral vocabulary words. Next we read words with long a spelled ai or ay. After that we practiced putting words into ABC order. Next, we reviewed our sight words and vocabulary words. We talked about how to use a dictionary and matched a word to its meaning when used in a sentence. Then our focused switched to fluency and comprehension. We partner read a story in our decodable reader booklets before reading our story for the week How Bat Got Its Wings. The students did notice that the story was a bit longer than others. I reminded them that we are all great readers and can read long stories.

This afternoon in Language Arts we completed pages in our close reading companion. We also reviewed how to write contractions. Finally we wrote our first persuasive paragraph. We added the details to why we love camping and wrote our concluding sentence. The students were quite pleased to write their own paragraph!

In Math class today we practiced measuring objects using linking cubes. The students choose three objects to measure and recorded the measurements on a sheet. They just loved it!

With some extra time today, we watched a short movie about the importance of brushing our teeth. This will lead into our science discussion on Friday.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is a jean day for the students. It is make-up Student Appreciation Day from last week!
