Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a good week. We had a fantastic day to end our week in first grade.
In Religion class today, we began our chapter on the Mass. We read about what Jesus did at the Last Supper and discovered that he gave himself to us in the bread and wine that he shared with his disciples.
During Language Arts class, we wrapped up our story Tippy Toe Chick, Go! by reviewing our phonics skills (diphthong ow and syllables C+le) and our sight words. We also reviewed the events in the story by taking our test. In addition we practiced identifying command sentences. Finally, we wrote our concluding sentence in our informative paragraph on ponies.
To help celebrate spring, we read Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. We then talked about weather we have in spring and the weather the town of Chewandswallow had. Students then did some creative writing where they wrote about what it rained for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They did an excellent job with their writing.
In Math class today, we learned how to estimate to the nearest multiple of 10. Using our classroom number line, we used various numbers and said what multiple of 10 that number was close to. They found this to be easy.
For Science class today, we reviewed the meaning of push and pull. The students then worked in groups to construct a maze. Next, using a ping pong ball and straw they had to blow the ball through their maze. Some mazes were quite a challenge.
Finally, it was time for Art class. This week, we made birdies in a nest. They are adorable!
Have a wonderful weekend!
