Getting Ready for Halloween!

Greetings! The excitement is building in first grade for tomorrow and Wednesday! The students are ready to party tomorrow!

We began our day with Religion class today. Today we reviewed the seasons of the church year. We talked about what we celebrate in each season and the colors associated with the season. We also finished praying the Glorious Mysteries thus marking the end of our classroom praying the rosary. The students brought their rosary home tonight. Please continue to pray with them using the rosary.

We began another week of learning in Language Arts. Because of Halloween, All Saints' Day, and play practice, we will be stretching this week of learning. Today we learned two new oral vocabulary words. We also worked on rereading as we read a story about Martin Luther King Jr. Next we practiced blending and reading words with digraphs th, sh, and ng. Finally we learned our new sight words. We put our phonics skills to work as we read the fantasy story Thump Thump Helps Out. This afternoon we worked in our literacy centers and wrote about our favorite Halloween candy.

In Math class today we reviewed shapes and patterns by solving problems. The students are quite good with these concepts.

Please remember that tomorrow is our Halloween celebration. Please send costumes in a marked bag. It is also a Jean Day tomorrow!
