Wacky Wednesday!

Greetings on this Wacky Wednesday! It sure was not a normal day in first grade, but it was a day filled with learning. Our planned power outage lasted longer than expected. However, with the sun shining in our room, we went straight to work.

In Religion class today we talked about how Jesus cared for all people. We said that he talked to rich people, poor people, farmers, fisherman, women, children, and anyone he wanted to. We read the story of Zaccheaus and loved how he climbed a tree to see Jesus.

In Language Arts class, we reviewed our oral vocabulary words, r blend and s blend words, possessives, and sight words. To help us with possessives, we wrote sentences based on pictures. We then put our knowledge to work. We partner read a story in our decodable reader booklets. Next we read a nonfiction piece titled Move It and completed pages in our close reading companion after reading the story. After that we sorted sentences based on whether or not they were asking sentences or telling sentences. Finally, we wrote a sentence describing a picture.

To end our day, we created a spider. On each spider leg we wrote an s blend word. Have a look:

In Math class today we learned how to write fact families. We learned that each family has two addition and two subtraction sentences. We will continue to practice this tomorrow.

Just a reminder that because of Living Rosary tomorrow, we will not have Gym class.
