Happy Columbus Day!

Greetings on this Columbus Day! We had an awesome day discovering new things in first grade.

In Religion class today we talked about how God always cares for and watches over us. That led us to a discussion on how we should not worry about things. We ended class by praying our rosary. This week we will be praying the Luminous Mysteries.

We kicked off a new week of learning in first grade today. We began by learning our new oral vocabulary words. We then worked on making predictions as we read Millie Waits for the Mail. Next we practiced blending and reading short e words; that was followed by learning our new sight words. After that we read a realistic fiction story titled Good Job, Ben. We finished our morning by working in our literacy centers.

This afternoon we talked about nouns. We read a story and identified all of the nouns in it. Next, we read a story about firefighters in honor of Fire Safety Week. We then wrote about firefighters. We finished our day by celebrating Christopher Columbus. We created these awesome posters:

In Math class today we reviewed true and false statements. We used our number strips to help us determine whether a number sentence was true or false.

Enjoy your night!
