Welcome October!

Greetings! Happy October! It sure is feeling more like fall this week. We are off to a great start this month in first grade.

The month of October is dedicated to the rosary. So, today in Religion class, we learned how to pray the rosary. We began by coloring a rosary and learning the prayers we say. Then, I gave each student their own rosary, and we prayed the first decade of the Joyful Mysteries. We will continue to pray the rosary each day during the month of October.

With today being Monday we kicked off a new week of learning in Language Arts. We began by learning two new oral vocabulary words. We then worked on the strategy of asking and answering questions when reading a story. After that we blended and read words with r blends and s blends. Finally, we learned our new sight words.

Our focus then switched gears as we put our new knowledge to work. We read Move and Grin a nonfiction story about how our bodies move. We then worked in our literacy centers. We finished the day by reviewing the characteristics of telling and asking sentences.

In Math class today we practiced writing subtraction sentences for story problems. We remembered that we begin with the bigger number and then the number taken away.

Here are pictures from Friday's Art class:

Have a good night!
