A Tricky Start!

Greetings! I hope everyone made it to work safely this morning. I don't know about you, but I wasn't expecting that. It was a nice slow commute in today.

We began our day with Religion class. Today we began our study on the season of Lent, which begins on Wednesday. We looked at when it begins and talked about what happens at Mass. We also learned the color of the season (purple) and the word we won't sing until Easter (Alleluia). Finally, we talked about the three pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. We will continue to look at Lent tomorrow.

In Language Arts, we reviewed our oral vocabulary words and read long e words. We then identified the word with a prefix when given its meaning; the students did awesome with this. Next we read our word wall and practiced our vocabulary words. After that we partner read a story in our decodable reader booklets as well as the story Animal Teams

This afternoon we read a nonfiction piece about bees and completed pages in our close reading companion. Finally, we practiced writing sentences using the correct end mark.

In Math class today we reviewed place value. The students remembered everything from Friday, so today's lesson went smoothly.

This afternoon ladies from the Penn State Enrichment center came to talk to us about pests and poisons. They gave everyone Mr. Yuck stickers to use at home.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is our Valentine's Day celebration. If you are sending treats, please make sure to include one for each student!
