Greetings! Happy Thursday! Today was such a quick day in first grade. Before we knew it, it was time for lunch, and then it was time to go home. It was a great day of learning!
We began our day with Religion. Today we talked about ways we celebrate God's love. Some of the ways include praying, singing, and worshiping Him at Mass. We also learned two special words of praise: Alleluia and Amen.
Language Arts was a great class today. We began by reviewing our oral vocabulary words, reading long o words, and segmenting open syllable words into syllables. After that we read the word wall to review our sight words. Our focus switched from reviewing to practicing. We partner read two stories, one from our decodable reader and our story from yesterday Vulture View. We then read a poem and completed pages in our close reading companion. Next, we practiced using go and do in sentences. We wrapped up the morning by celebrating George Washington's birthday. We read a biography about him, wrote facts we learned, and added those facts around a craft.
Gym class was again the highlight of the day. Today we did various exercises. The students rolled a dice to see what type of exercise we would do (jumping jacks, sit ups, push ups, toe touches, hops) and then another dice to see how many we would do. Our hearts were sure beating fast by the end.
We began a new chapter in Math today. Today we learned how to add two two-digit numbers without regrouping. We first used our base ten blocks to help us solve the problems before transitioning to just paper and pencil. The students were such good listeners and learners during Math today.
We ended our day with Social Studies. Today we talked about the difference between need and want. We sorted pictures based on whether the object was a need or a want.
Tomorrow will be an exciting day to end the week!
