Messy Learning!

Greetings! I hope everyone had a fantastic Friday to end their week. We had a busy yet fun day to end ours in first grade.

We began our day with our prayer service. Here we listened to the story of Jesus healing a man with a speech impediment. We prayed that our hearts always be opened to Jesus.

In Language Arts, we reviewed our oral vocabulary words. We also practiced reading long e words and words with prefixes. After that we practiced using our sight words and vocabulary words in sentences. When then switched gears to practice our fluency. We partner read a story from our decodable readers. We also read a story about how animals work together titled Animal Teams. After reading that story we completed pages in our close reading companion. We ended class by finishing our paragraph on why we love the zoo.

In Math class today we talked about place value. Using our base-ten blocks, we were able to identify which digit is in the tens place and which digit is in the ones place.

Science class was loads of fun today. We began by watching a movie about the importance of brushing and flossing our teeth. Working in partners we then had to brush a hard-boiled egg that was soaked in Coke. They worked so hard to get that egg white again and loved getting messy in the process.

We ended our week with Art class. Today we made our Valentine gift bags. We can't wait to fill them next Tuesday.

Here is a picture from last week's art project:

Have a wonderful weekend!
