Greetings! I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. Friday was a great day to end the week in first grade.
We began our day with Mass. This was a special Mass for first grade as we used the songbooks for the first time. They were so proud to be able to use them like the older students. Listening to them sing and see the accomplishment they felt was priceless. I just can't get those images out of my head this weekend.
We wrapped up yet another week of learning in first grade. We used our oral vocabulary words in sentences, read long o words and open syllable words, wrote sentences using our sight words, and used our vocabulary words in sentences. We also took our weekly assessment. We ended class by reviewing when to use go and do in sentences.
Addition was the focus yet again in Math class. Today we learned how to add two two-digit numbers with regrouping. We only used base ten blocks to solve problems; on Monday, we'll learn how to solve them on paper. To solve these problems, we used the blocks to show each number. We then counted the ones, and if we had 10 or more, we traded those ten ones for a ten stick. The students did great with this.
Our focus continues to be health in Science class. Today we learned about the different food groups and foods that belong in each group. We spent time sorting pictures of foods into the correct groups before drawing examples.
We ended the week with Art. Today we made a pot of gold with a rainbow coming out of it. We used pieces of construction paper to fill in the rainbow. We even added glitter to the gold coins. I'll post pictures tomorrow!
Enjoy your Sunday!
