Ash Wednesday!

Greetings! Happy Valentine's Day and Happy first day of Lent. Yes, both of those days feel on the same day this year. We celebrated yesterday, and we focused today on being Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent.

We began our day with Mass. Today, Msgr. Lockard reminded us about how during this season we need to pray, perhaps fast from something (He encouraged us to fast from complaining) and do good works. Our goal is to grow closer to Jesus during this holy season.

We began a new week of learning in Language Arts today. We learned our five new oral vocabulary words. We practiced asking and answering questions as we read a nonfiction stories about how animals survive in the winter. We wrapped up the morning by blending and reading long o words spelled o, oa, ow, and oe.

This afternoon in Language Arts was filled with excitement. We spent time looking at the Olympics. We talked about how athletes compete with other athletes from all over the world. We talked about ways to show good sportsmanship. We then watched videos of various Olympic sports. Tomorrow in Gym we will be participating in our very own Olympics games.

We ended the day with some Valentine inspired writing. The students had to write why they love hugs or kisses more. We added a Hershey kiss to the writing.

In Math class today we looked at number patterns. We completed number patterns that counted by 1s, 2s, 3s, and 5s. I loved how so many of the students were so excited to tell me the answer that they jumped out of their seats.

Enjoy your night!
