PIE: Author's Purpose!

Greetings! Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend and got outside to enjoy the sunshine! We had a special treat today as we headed to the playground for recess. It has been 2 years but it was worth the wait. The children had so much fun!

In Religion class today, we talked about how we celebrate Easter every time we celebrate Mass. We then took time to look at each part of the Mass.

We began Language Arts by working in our small reading groups to build our fluency and comprehension skills. We then began a new week of learning; this week we will be reading about people who help us. We began by learning our five new oral vocabulary words (inspire, respect, decision, swiftly, and distance). We then worked on rereading as we read a fable about why the moon is in the sky. Next, we learned how to blend and read vowel variant /a/ words spelled a, al, au, augh, and aw. Following that, we learned our new sight words and vocabulary words. We ended our morning reading All Kinds of Helpers which helped us practice our new phonics skills.

This afternoon in Language Arts, we learned about possessive pronouns and practiced using them in sentences. We also took time to learn about author's purpose, why an author writes a book. We looked at the acronym PIE: persuade, inform, entertain to help us understand why an author writes a book.

In Math class today we practiced subtracting with regrouping. The students did very well with this. Tomorrow, we will mix the subtraction problems.

Here is a picture from Friday's Art class!

Have a great night!
