Greetings! Today was Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Lenten season in the church. This morning we attended a prayer service and received ashes. The students were so excited to get ashes. I think it made them feel like an older student.
Before the prayer service, we continued our Lenten discussion in the classroom. We reviewed what we talked about on Monday. We then made a Lenten calendar. I encourage you to follow the Lenten calendar with your child during this holy season. Here's a picture of the calendar:
In Language Arts class, we practiced using our oral vocabulary words, read words with long i and inflected endings, reviewed our sight words, and talked about using context clues. Then we read a story in our decodable reader booklets. Next, we read Hi! Fly Guy, a hilarious story about a boy and his pet fly. The students waited all week to read this story and were not disappointed. This afternoon, we reviewed how to write titles of books.
This week kicks off our celebration of Dr. Seuss. Yesterday we read The Cat in the Hat and talked about the plot. Today we read The Cat in the Hat Comes Back and compared/contrasted the two stories. Tomorrow we will do a writing project with these books.
In Math class today we learned how to add 10 to a number. We first used dimes and pennies to help us learn this concept. Pretty soon we were solving these problems mentally.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is Gym day. Please remember your sneakers!
