Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Top of the day to you! I hope you had a wonderful St. Patrick's Day! Irish eyes were smiling all day in first grade today.

We began our day by attending Mass. Today at Mass, Msgr. Lockard told us the story of St. Patrick. He reminded us to always be kind to everyone especially those who might hurt us.

In Language Arts today, we practiced using our oral vocabulary words in sentences. We also reviewed r-controlled ar words and irregular plurals; in addition we used our sight words and vocabulary in sentences and used context clues to define a word in a sentence. Then it was time to read. We partner read a story from our decodable readers. We then read and discussed A Lost Button. We just loved this story; it has two favorite characters in it: Frog and Toad.

In Math class today we practiced solving a problem using our problem solving steps. Today we solved a problem by making an organized list.

In Science class today we talked about sound. We said that some sounds are loud and some sounds are soft.

We ended our day with Art class. Today we made leprechauns. They look so cute. Have a look:

In the midst of the learning today, we had a very special guest reader visit our classroom. Mrs. Scanlan returned to read a St. Patrick's day story to the students who were very excited to see her. She even brought the students a small present.

Enjoy your weekend! May the luck of the Irish be with you!
