Sharing God's Light!

Greetings! Happy Thursday! Today was another exciting, busy day in first grade.

In Religion class today we talked about receiving the light of Christ. We discovered that we received the light of Christ when we were baptized. We then talked about ways we can share this light with others.

We began Language Arts class today by using our oral vocabulary words in sentences. Then we reviewed r-controlled vowels, words with inflected ending -er, our sight words, and our vocabulary words. Next we worked on our fluency and comprehension skills. We read a story from our decodable readers. We also read Kitten's First Full Moon; after reading the story we answered questions in our close reading companion. Finally we talked about adjectives. Today we focused on numbers as adjectives.

In Math class today we learned the terms dozen and half-dozen. Each student was given an egg carton. We filled the cartons with "eggs" (linking cubes) to discover how many are in a dozen. We then filled half the carton with one color and the other half with another color to discover how many are in a half-dozen.

Next came Social Studies. Today we talked about goods and services. Goods are things we buy; services are things people do. We sorted pictures based on whether they named a good or service.

We ended our day by praying the Stations of the Cross.

Tomorrow will be a busy day to end the week!
