So Grateful!

Greetings! Today was just an awesome day in first grade. I lost my voice, and the students could not have been any more helpful. I am so appreciative at how well they listened and behaved. It made the day go so well.

In Religion class today we talked about the beginning part of a Baptism. We learned that the Sign of Cross is traced on a baby's head by the priest, parents, and godparents. We then learned that words said as a baby is baptized. Then it was time to role play a Baptism. We used a baby doll as we traced the Sign of the Cross and poured water on her head. The students enjoyed this role playing activity today.

We began Language Arts class by reviewing our oral vocabulary words. We then used our letter tiles to spell long e words. Next it was time to have fun with compound words. The students worked in groups to build compound words by matching halves of Easter eggs together to form a word. After reviewing our sight words and vocabulary words, it was time to read. We partner read a story in our decodable readers and Koko and Penny. We then read a nonfiction selection about saving gorillas and completed pages in our close reading companion. We ended the morning by reading Green Eggs and Ham and writing about who we wouldn't eat them with and who we would eat them with. The students were very creative in their responses.

For gym class today, we again worked on our kickball skills. We are getting the hang of running the bases.

In Math class today we learned how to draw congruent shapes. First we made a shape on our geoboards; we then drew the shape on dot paper.

This week we are switching Social Studies and Science classes. So today in Science, we explored 4 out of our 5 senses. We really enjoyed guessing different objects in each category.

Hopefully the snow will stay away tonight! Stay safe!
