Greetings! I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We had a great start to our week in first grade.
In Religion class today we had our Baptism show and tell event. It was great seeing the white garments, candles, and pictures. Thank you for taking the time to help make this show and tell so special.
We began Language Arts by reading in our small groups. We then began a new week of learning; this week we will be reading about things found in the sky. We learned five new oral vocabulary words (observe, vast, certain, remained, and thoughtful). We then worked on making predictions as we read a folktale about how the sun and moon got in the sky. Next, we learned how to blend and read r-controlled -er, -ir, -ur, and -or words. Following that we learned our new sight words and vocabulary words. We ended our morning by reading A Bird Named Fern. This helped us to practice the new skills that we learned.
This afternoon in Language Arts, we learned that adjectives are describing words. To help us learn about adjectives, the students were each given a slice of an apple and asked to describe it. We came up with adjectives like red, round, tasty, juicy, crunchy.
In Math class today we continued to practice solving addition problems without regrouping. The students are doing so well with this. Tomorrow we will begin to learn how to add with regrouping.
Just a reminder book orders are due tomorrow. Have a great night!
