Greetings! Happy Tuesday! We had another great day of learning in first grade.
In Religion class today, we talked about how Jesus wants us to be peacemakers. We talked about what that means and what we can do to be peacemakers.
In Language Arts, we answered questions using our oral vocabulary words. We then used our letter tiles to spell and read words with ou and ow. Following that, we practiced spelling and reading words with the inflectional endings -er and -est; we remembered when to change the y to an i, drop the final e, and double the final consonant. As one student put it, there is so much to remember! From there, we practiced using our sight words and vocabulary words in sentences. We ended the morning working on our comprehension skills. This week we are again focusing on problem and solution. We reread Now, What's That Sound and read our decodable reader and wrote about the problem and solution in each story.
This afternoon we learned when to use this and that in sentences. We also wrote another paragraph. Today we wrote about why we love Easter. We wrote the topic and concluding sentences together; the students wrote the detail sentences. Didn't they do a nice job?
In Math class today, we practiced subtracting with regrouping. We are doing much better with this concept. The students were feeling more confident today as we practiced.
Have a great night!
