Popcorn Words!

Greetings on this soggy Thursday! I know this might be strange but I was quite excited for the rain today. Things are starting to grow and I am excited to be cutting grass once again. Spring is almost here!

In Religion class today we talked about how we can be the Light of Christ for others. We said that when we share, help, and care we spread Jesus' light in the world.

In Language Arts class, we reviewed our oral vocabulary, spelled and read r-controlled words and abbreviations, reviewed all of our sight words, and practiced using our vocabulary words in sentences. From there we partner read a story in our decodable reader. Then we talked about alliteration as we read two poems; we completed pages in our close reading companion to help us build our alliteration skills. Finally, we practiced identifying and using adjectives that compare.

This week we have been learning how to blend and read r-controlled -or, -ore, and -oar words. Today, we took what we learned and added it to a craft. We wrote six r-controlled words on popcorn kernels and then created a popcorn bucket with the words. Here are some of the finished products:

In Math class today we continued our practice of subtracting without regrouping. The children are doing so well with this. I am so pleased.

For Gym today, we once again exercised to GoNoodle videos. They loved it.

We ended our day with Social Studies. Today, we talked about the difference between needs (things we must have) and wants (things we like to have). We sorted pictures based on whether they showed a want or need.

Have a great night!
