Greetings on this warm Thursday Ocotber day. I will admit that it was another warm day in first grade. We did our best to stay cool with extra drink breaks, but we all agreed that a cooler day will be appreciated.
In Religion class today we talked about how Jesus grew up in Nazareth with Mary and Joseph. We talked about how Jesus helped and obeyed his parents and how we need to do what Jesus did.
We began Language Arts by reviewing our oral vocabulary words. Next we used our whiteboards to write and read r-blend and s-blend words. After that we completed a worksheet where we finished the possessive phrase. After that we read our word wall and talked about diagrams. We finished the morning by partner reading a story in our decodable reader and our story from yesterday. This afternoon we completed pages in our close reading companion that helped us build an understanding of diagrams. We also practiced writing sentences correctly.
In Math class today we solved addition word problems. I wrote a problem on the board and the students solved it using whatever method they liked. I loved seeing them use different methods and hearing how they used their methods to solve the problems.
We finished our day with Social Studies. Today we talked about community helpers. Each student was given a clue about the job of a community helper. They had to guess which helper it was. After that, they drew a picture of their community helper.
Tomorrow will be busy. We have Mass (this is NOT a Faith Family Mass). We also have Library, Art, and a guest reader. Stay cool!
