Halloween Week!

Greetings! Happy Monday! Today was the start of a fun week in first grade. We will be celebrating Halloween and honoring the saints this week. I can tell that the children had tons of fun this weekend trick-or-treating. It took awhile to get them going today.

Religion was a busy class today. We began by practicing for our prayer service on Friday. Then we came back and reviewed the Great Commandment. After that we talked about ways we can love ourselves. Finally, we completed our ARISE lesson for the week. Today we talked about how we as Catholics are called to be a family and help each other. We wrote about ways to help our families, class, and community.

We began a new week of learning in Language Arts today. We learned two new oral vocabulary words (leadership and admire). We also worked on rereading as we read the story The Story of Martin Luther King, Jr. Following that we learned how to blend and read words with the digraphs sh, th, and ng. We also learned our new sight words for the week. We ended our morning by reading Thump Thump Helps Out

This afternoon in Language Arts we practiced telling the difference between common and proper nouns. We also began our study of pumpkins. Today we learned the names of the different parts of a pumpkin.

In Math class today we worked on writing fact families. We know that a fact family has four math sentences: two addition and two subtraction. After several minutes, we were writing them very quickly!

Have a great night! Don't forget your saint costume tomorrow!
