Greetings! Today was a rockin' day in first grade. I just loved seeing the kids dress in a past decade. Their was so much creativity being displayed; it was unbelievable. Thank you for helping the children enjoy Red Ribbon Week and celebrating the importance of being drug free.
In Religion class today, we talked about how many people came and followed Jesus. We learned that Jesus treated all people special. We ended class by praying the third decade of the Glorious Mysteries.
In Language Arts class, we reviewed our oral vocabulary words. We practiced reading words with ends blends and practiced adding the -ing ending onto words and reading the words. We also practiced our sight words. After that we partner read a story in our decodable reader booklet. We ended the morning reading At a Pond, a nonfiction story about animals at a pond.
This afternoon in Language Arts, we wrote about the main idea and key details from the story. We also practiced writing possessive nouns.
For Gym class today, we headed outside to the playground. Yes, it was windy, but with the sun shining, the fresh air felt good. This may have been our last Gym class outside for a while.
In Math class today we practiced solving subtraction word problems. We know that we can write a subtraction sentence, use a number bond, draw a picture, or use manipulatives to solve the problem.
Just a reminder that first grade needs to wear a green shirt tomorrow!
