Reading About Our Community!

Greetings! Happy Tuesday! It was sure nice to see the sun shining today. We did miss it yesterday.

We were quite busy in Religion class today. We wrapped up our chapter on the early life of Jesus. We reviewed how Mary said yes to God, how Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem, and how he grew up in Nazareth. Following that we had our first ARISE lesson. For the next six weeks we will be looking at the social teachings of the church. Today we talked about how everyone everywhere deserves respect. We ended class by praying the second decade of the Luminous Mysteries.

We began Language Arts class by working in our literacy centers. Then we jumped back into our week of learning. We reviewed our oral vocabulary words from yesterday and learned three new words (astonishing, fortunately, and equipment). After that we worked on making predictions as we read a nonfiction piece about jobs in our community. Then, we used our letter tiles to spell and read short e words. Next, we learned about the inflectional ending
-ed and how when we add it to a word it describes something in the past. Following that we practiced using our sight words in sentences. We ended our morning by rereading Good Job, Ben and writing about the characters, setting, and events in the story.

This afternoon in Language Arts we sorted nouns based on whether they name a person, place or thing. We read our decodable reader and answered questions about the characters, setting, and events. Finally, we wrote about firefighters. We wrote about what they have, what they do, and who they are. We will be adding our writing to a craft tomorrow.

In Math class today we took a test on addition. Tomorrow our focus will switch to subtraction.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Gym day!
